Beetle/bus engine to other gearboxes?

Hi there, got a strange one for you.
Would anyone out there have any experience of joining an aircooled beetle engine to say an MGB, or maybe a Triumph spitfire/Herald (or even Ford Sierra?) gearbox.

Want to do this for a project I have planned.
Any advice much appreciated.

several years ago I read a feature in a mag of a Morris Minor with a VW flat4 fitted, but all the pics being B/W I think the transplant was done in the late 60's early 70's
