Birth Certificate for 1970 Dormobile...

I remember readind somewhere that you can apply to, I suspect, VW for a birth certificate showing date of manufacture and other interesting info on your van. Any idea where we can apply? Does it cost? Has anybody done this? What do you actually get, i.e. is it worth it?
