I have stripped and blown through every bit of this Bocar carb in an effort to get it to tick over, and up to this happening the bus ran brill no flat spots from setting off idle, but now I have achieved a spot on tick over not the usual set up but hit and miss really but spot on never the less, then I thought it would continue to run brill but guess what....yep the flat spot gremlin is back, well you cant run if it wont tick over but now running with flat spots..also as annoying.
I read somewhere about adjusting the squirt by adjusting the accelerator pump bell cam has anyone tried this...one more thing got my eye on a 34 pict Solex if I buy a rebuild kit from VW Heritage or Just Campers are the jets in the kit any good or are they made in the same place as the lovely Bocar..if so where can I get a genuine rebuild kit from...thanks for all your input..

the last rebuilt kit I got doesn't have any jets, its really all the gaskets and daiphragms and seals. Everything else you just clean/blow through

Hmmm - I told you it was pants didn't I? It's possible that there is swarf in the fine drilling between the acc pump and the jet so it's worth taking the barsteward apart again and giving it a blast of compressed air down the choke with the pump diaphragm removed.

You don't get jets in rebuild kits cos you don't need them - just blow through your original jets. You do get a needle valve and washer, which are sometimes pretty poor, sometimes OK. Try to get a German rebuild kit if you can find one. You may have to rebush the spindles on the old Solex - there's someone on eBay who sells them and a thread on here (or maybe JK) that tells you how to do it.

I still think this is down to jet size, I thought mine was suffering from carb icing and that was causing the flat spots, but it was just the jet size, unless the jets are stamped up with the sizes you can't be sure how the carb is set up, and what effect that it will have on the engine, a fraction of a mill in the size of the hole might make all the difference. Before buying a rebuild kit I would make sure the carb was jetted as stock and go from there... (although maybe the 130 for the main jet as BJ1 suggested)

Thanks for the info,I cant understand why it ran without flat spots when it wouldn't tick over but runs with them now it ticks over, also I have blown down every conceivable orifice and then some more,I think its a Mexican conspiracy......

Hi

If you do have a spare pict34 solex I'd be interested - good luck getting it sorted

Thanks

Larry

I would be deffo interested in a Solex carb ...seems to be the answer hopingly...

Just another thought. My new Bocar (yes, I know.....) ceased to idle. Just taken it back. I thought it was a blocked idle jet. Not so. Turned out it was the cut-off solenoid. It clicked ok, but didn't operate completely, thus stopping the idle. Worth a check????
