Bra's

We are thinking of buying a bra for our van so can someone recommend any suppliers? Also, do they rub against the paintwork and cause any damage?

YES the Volksheaven bra that I had DID rub the paintwork where the metal tabs (which are covered with material) came into contact with the door jam. The metal tabs soon wore through the material covering then youve got metal rubbing on metal.

I had a spirit of the 50's Bra, It was excellent but I found that on a 4 day mission in europe some of it in the rain the seams around the headlight area that then went to the edge of the front panel seemed to leach some dye, It polished off fine but did put me off using it from then on!

Ive had a Volksheaven Bra for 3 years and have had no problems with paint damage, i recon you will get more damage with stone chips personally, just my experiance. If anything it flaps in the wind and need some tweating, the noise drives you mad :lol:

I was thinking about one as well but was curious as to whether they are designed to be a semi perm fitting or should it be taken off on a regular basis for it to dry out etc

I had one made by the guy that did the trim inside, he used mego strong magnets and it works a treat.

It does rub around the paint work where the magnets are but i don't care, it makes the bus stand out

I have the chequered bra fitted to mine, put it on 3 months ago, have done approx 1500miles around france, I havent removed it yet. I'll take it off and let you know the verdict.

However as said before the chequered bra certainly makes it stand out, Last year in france about 3 people pulled out on front of us, one very very close, said they didnt see us. :shock: This year everyone saw us coming. :mrgreen:

I have had my Volksheaven bra for donkeys years now and have replaced a few of the tabs now as they have worn, just general wear and tear, I would reccomend them all day long!

Please note tho, i would not keep them on all the time as you will get marks on your paint. They can be polished out easily, but just take it off after the journey

I'd take it off and let the paint breath as often as possible, it's deffo's a bad plan to leave it on there it will hold moisture against the van which is always a bad plan!

If it is for stone chip protection, I'm sure a guy on here was making clear vinyl covers (not the right word) that you actually stuck onto the front of the van (bit like a vinyl wrap).

If you paint is in excellent nick, then this is worth s shot (I know if your paint is damaged, when or if it comes that you want to remove it, it can pull the paint - think they are gaurenteed for 3 year or somethin)

I would be real interested to hear from you once you take your bra off (this is sounding all wrong!). Just want to see if you suffer from the staining on the front (that does not sound any better!).

Also, is that a 5" check or 3" check? I am giving them a call tomorrow to discuss the rubbing and staining people have reported. I really like the idea of protecting the front our our newly renovated bus when we get it and like the sound of these.

Mine is a 3" cheque and I use it all the time, i always take it off once i reach my destination as im sure leaving it on will not do the paint any good in the long run.
