last night on the way home i had to use my AA membership for the fist time

Anyway, the van started to misfire and lost power in the end???? i pull in to the service on the M25 and called the AA.

The chap checked the electrics and plugs and leads. the van is fitted with eletric ing so no piont to worry about.
Still misfired and could not pull away under pressure. He then checked the coil, still no joy.

He put his hands up and said that he could not fix it   s flat bed home.

While waiting for the truck i called "clyde" he checked many books and the net, he thinks it could well be a sticky/closed valve. After spending the hours reading "how to keep your VW alive" i think he could be right.
I have not done/looked anything yet????

Anyone got any views.
:D

dude sorry to hear you had probs

must be the M25 as on sat morning after coming back from france/germany my bus gave up too

the Mrs was driving it as i had been doing driving for the last 2 weeks and done 2500miles in him, just got miss fire and alot of smoking

so off to beetle magic to find out whats gone wrong

Any smoke?

Had an issue like this on holiday last year turned out to be a bent exhaust valve on number 3 cylinder.

Pop the rokker covers off and look for signs of hot gas scorch marks on the rocker assembly and valve stem, if its a bent valve it will be very evident, the valve guide will be opened up and there will be what looks like gold dust in the rocker cover.

The first thing I would do though is, check each cylinder in turn for a spark at the plug, could be that your electronic points are breaking down on intermittently, alternativly if you have a good spark at each plug then you know the problem is else where.

I have also heard of rocker assemblies coming loose, this would cause the valves on at least one cylinder to be totally out of adjustment, check that the rockers are still solidly bolted down to the cylinder head.

Let us know how you get on.

Ok a little more info need i guess.

There was no smoke?????
The AA chap put a red cap??? on top of the diss cap to see if there was a spark. Spark was there and bright while the van ticked over, but under power the spark almost went?????

The bus run 50 miles back from Breeze and it just started misfiring :( :(

I will be check all the below out tomorrow, but just trying to get any ideas of were to start.

cheers and thanks

That sounds like an electrical fault in the ignition circuit.

Battery fully charged and in good condition?
What gap is your electronic point set at, has it moved since fitting, or has it loosened from the breaker plate?
Rotor and cap in good condition.
Any up and down or side to side play in the distributor shaft?

Hi all, just to let you know my van is FIXED :D :D :D
