Broken down

First 'breakdown' accelerator pedal went to the floor and didn't come back up. Had to be on the motorway didn't it.

How would I do such a thing? (Complete mechanics novice)

I' m not much of a mechanic there are far cleverer people on here than me but,
When you have the bus running you can manually rev it ip from inside the engine bay by pulling the lever on the carb, could you not wedge this open a bit just to get you moving???

Has the acc cable snapped or is it the acc pedal??

Cable. A 71 owner has just pulled over and showed me where it's snapped but had no tools so couldn't fix it. Breakdown should be here soon.

Most people Carry a spare acc cable & clutch cable & a tool box, tow rope & jump leads??!!!!!
You'll have to invest in some sort of "get me home" kit??
Even if you can't fix it, if you have tools someone that stops might be able to??
I have heard of people running a long piece of string round the out side of the bus to use as a temporary hand operated acc cable. :shock:

As long as you get home & safely that's the main thing!!!

A piece of string from the carb, around the bus thru the cab window job done.

Worth remembering if you got twin cabs the standard cable is to short, I ended using a connector block and some PVC tape as a bodge to get me home 8)

I shouldn't really tempt fate but that sounds quite a laugh using string through the window :lol: I didn't know the std cable was too short for twin carbs, which cable should it be???

You wanna get the Universal one Rob, it's multi-strand as opposed to the stock single strand and about 2m longer. The standard is just about 2" short :roll: which is a pisser when it snaps I can tell you :lol:

The standard cable is too short for a single weber too, I had to run in a universal cable for it, like you say 2 bloody inches!!
