Hi all - sorry for this, indecision time!
I have this silly idea about doing this, as mentioned before:
Plan.jpg
- we have a Caterham, only weighs 500kg, so perfectly possible.

Looked at a van today - not an early bay, so I hope you will forgive me asking on here, but I vaguely trust you lot on these sorts of things :)
Its a '78 pick up, from Sweden.

Its bodywork is in very good condition - still painted green underneath!

Only rust is surface, within the locker (where water has dripped through) - edge of the locker has holes, but sills underneath are solid. Deck has a few holes (under the wood) but nothing you wouldn't expect.

Van is exactly as described by its very nice owner - drove it today, goes pretty well (tad quicker than my '68!) New MOT

£3000

Will I kick myself if I pass on this opportunity? Must admit I have no idea on value of such a thing. I can't afford it, and have no where to store it - but hey, I'm a bloke :D

Oh, and thats one of those eschebacher (sp?) heaters underneath, but not connected....

I would go for it mate, looks like very little work would be needed for what you would be using it for

perfect

Go for it fella pity its not an early but still gotta be worth a punt....
get the eber functioning and you can have a nice cosy cab to sit in when your fingers are frozen on those cold mornings at the track and you just cant grip the spanner

Yep - it would be ready to go!
It is a pity it isn't earlier, as you say, but I guess they go for more. The 2ltr engine is probably better as far as lugging the weight around, and of course the underneath is effectively 10 years 'younger' than my '68, hence the condition....
Any thoughts on the price - I know its a tough one bearing in mind the price that of these things go for now....I only paid £750 for my '68, though that was in 1990

Gotta laugh  - I mean, what am I expecting you lot of petrolhead VW fans to say - 'no angus, don't get the van - don't waste your money....save save save!! '

To be honest Angus I'd be happy at that price, the guy sounds genuine and hasnt *********** you, she looks in really good condition a few minor items ie the locker and deck but nothing too costly or extreme...looking like a good workhorse and the 2ltr should handle the job well

If theres anything you noticed whilst testing /viewing that we're not aware of then take that into account obviously but since youve not stressed anything serious I would hazard a guess that its a good un and worth the cash.

i think ye'd find it difficult to catch a ready to go early model in that sorta condition for the money. the 2litre and the eberspacher(looks all connected to me) are major plus points too. 8)

Think you are right - few new bits underneath have fixed the steering slop, and he has a non-rusty locker door to go with it anyway....bloke is very genuine as far as I can tell.
Now - where to get the dosh from.... :D

Heater is 'plumbed in' I think, but there aren't any switches/knobs connected - don't expect its a big deal to re-connect....talking myself into it aren't I...

I'd make a move on it at that price and condition. 8)

Every one on the forum could donate a few quid to the purchase of the pickup
and you could then do some ironic sign writing on it for the forum and things..............

:D - well, if anyone wants a cartoon of their Van....!

what can I sell
what can I sell
what can I sell

got any examples?

Bit of 'photoshop' - this is what it 'could' look like...
vancar-1.jpg

Scale is as close as I can get it...sides/rear hatch would actually have to be down/removed/widened.

Car is a bit big on this one - wheels on the car are 14", so should be smaller than vans, but gives an idea! (car was on the back of an RAC truck in this pic!)

this guy wants £2k for an earlier pickup with no injin or gbogs and not even registered :

sometimes i think it'd be a no bad idea if VZI crashed for good.

as for the eberspacher, i can only say that ye wouldn't be able to run that for long in a single cab without scorching yer legs. or worse.
