Hi,

I'm collecting a pair of replacement doors tomorrow (US imports) and was informed that the doors have the heater/ventilation slots in the inner skin/panel (as circled in the picture below).

What model years were these type of doors fitted to?

Would they be correct for our 71 Danbury - which has grey & black door trim panels (with the plastic channel that routes the air to the rear of the bus)?

Thank you,

Mike

Mike - pretty sure that the doors in your pic are for late bay, though I think you could put your old door cards on them which would mean the only visible difference would be the slots on the front of the door (for air flow) - early doors didnt have the slots.

Sounds like your van would have been a microbus originally as I think it was only those that had the channel routing air to the back.

Hope this helps

Regards

Andy

Thanks Andy :)

Forgive me if I'm being a numpty, but if the doors were from a late bay - are the slots the only difference? i.e. would the holes for the door handles, lock strikers etc still line up with our bus?

I thought late bay doors (73 on?) were a different shape/height to early bay (68-72) doors - around the wheel arch area(?). :?

However, if the slots are the only cosmetic difference I could handle that

Cheers,

Mike

Mike - have thought about this some more -

Shape of doors on outside is the same on all German doors (with exception of 68 door handle fitment cut out)

Locking mechanism activated by vertical pin form 74 on ( as 68 ) - so will have a hole in the interior top side of the door to rear near glass

69 to 73 doors have interior opening and lock lever in the same handle cluster

Hinges on 76 to 79 doors are different to 68 to 76 (though you can get a conversion kit to convert late to early - about £7 per door from bluebird)

Fresh air slots in front inner skin of door & outlet vent as your pic was introduced for 72 model year

So I guess that if your replacements are 72 of 73 model year it should be just the air slots that will differ

Apologies if my previous post was a bit vague - was on a one off night shift and brain was not quite fully engaged

Collected the doors yesterday from Mark of West Coast Retro (thanks Carole).

Mark's a great bloke and I even bought - more like stole ;) - a front bumper centre section from him too!

He has a very clean looking blue + white 71 deluxe (California import) - which looks a bit like the one slim_adi was selling - it only needs an engine - and think he only wanted £4500 for it.

Give him a call on 07968 742622

Thanks again for everyones help and advice 8)
