can i take the leisure battery out and still run the van

like it says, can i take my leisure battery out, charge it and use it for a couple of out of the van things and still run the van at the same time without it in?

do i need to wire the battery connections together whilst the battery is out? or is this a. bad. thing.

Take the leisure battery out and the insulate the positive terminal so it cannot touch the chassis as it will be live when the van is running. Otherwise it will make no difference.
