As above really. I am looking at upgrading to electronic ignition but a little confused been looking on machine 7 website. I want to go for a full kit. Which of the below do i need?

http://www.machine7.com/section.php?xSec=2682" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.machine7.com/section.php?xSec=2684" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Do I need to order both the above bits to have a complete setup?

Please help as want to order it today.

Depends on your dizzy, do you really need to replace it?

just get decent leads if yours aren't, and the unit that fits inside the dizzy takes a 20 mins to fit and is simple and is alot cheaper. To be honest for a standard 1600cc the bosch blue coils are hard to beat. That second kit replaces your coil leads and has the unit that fits inside your dizzy. You dont need to order both, one includes a new mechanical advance dizzy the other uses your own dizzy, stick with the vacuum advance if you have it and buy the second one in that list.

And have you looked at http://www.123ignition.nl/brand/VW.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i've heard alot of good things about this dizzy and it also has preset curves for different applications.

Cheers Johnny, my engine is being re-built to a 1776, twin port heads, twin carbs, new exhaust etc. So fancied going the electronic route. Will check out the 123. Just got a bit confused as to what the 009 is and what the petronix kit is and what to order. :?

009 is a mechanical advance and there is also vacuum advance and SVDA. Most people agree that the vacuum advance is far superior for an everyday bus (smoother running thoughtout the rev range and better economy) as the 009 wasn't originally designed for this purpose but it will do the job adequately.

check that out for more info. itll help you get your head around the workings and differences

Yer I think i've got a svda on mine currently. When twin carbs are fitting will there be somewhere to fit the air pipe that goes to the diaphram on the dissy?

are you keeping the svda then? im not sure its needed with a svda i know you have to cap the retard vacuum port on original carbs, someone more techinical will know but if you need you can tap one of the new dual carb manifolds for a vacuum, take off.

Im really not too sure what im going to do really. Been reading about the 123 ignition and also the petronix 1 & 2 they all sound pretty good. As im having a full on overhall I am tempted to go for a new electronic dissy complete. Just dont want to be disapointed with the results as the £££ is a fair bit.
