Came to put my van away yesterday, only to find that the reverse gear has vanished! When i put it into, what used to be reverse, i now get 2nd. went under the van for a look at the linkage, tightened everything, put it all back together and still nothing. All the other 4 gears are fine and work well, just reverse!
Has anyone else ever had this problem, and how did you fix it?

Thanks in advance,
Leon

Cheers guys, checked the gear stick and tightened it, but no joy. will check the bush.

Hi leon i had that problem once, it turned out to be the small plastic bush at the front.Worth a look at.
Stuart

Checked the bush, which appears to be there, but i'm not entirely sure what i'm looking for! Play? damage? black widows? All 3? I think maybe i should take it all apart and remove it completely and see what i find.

Any other ideas?

Exactly matey, now i'm forward in my drive and i can't get out

It is worth checking that the 4 engine bolts are tight......this happened to me!

But sounds more like, either the front selector or the centre coupling. Is the change in the other gears more sloppy than usual?

Engine bolts, good one, i'll check, it happened to me as well. Must've slipped my mind. The gears were sloppy but now since removeing and tightening everything, is pretty good. I've ordered a new centre coupling as it didn't look great. Thanks!

its dark early now too, i can lend a hand at the weekend, if needed?

Cheers ant, but i'm away at weekend. fortunatly not in the van. :) You'll probably here me screaming friday afternoon.

whey hey, just replaced the coupling, that arrived from JK in record quick time, and reverse has returned. 10 minute job, bonus. The old one is pretty knackered.
Slowly replacing the van part by part! :)

Glad you sorted it Dude, you should probably replace that front badge next. I'll take it off your hands. Saves you going to the Scrapyard

Just the coupling. Didn't realise how sloppy my gear change was until today, made a massive difference. Down side is, i won't get to stroke the wifes knee everytime i go into 4th. She'll probably consider that a good thing.

I put some poly ones on my brothers bus at 'Dubs at the Castle' it took about 15mins with the tools I had in the bus.

I think the poly one was an Empi one and cost £15ish from GSF.

i thought that your gear change was smoother than mine too!

How much was the part Leon?

It may well have got worse since the last time you were in it, like kids growing, you never notice it on your own!

Part was less than a tenner from JK! And as faux says, it's an easy job!
