Good day people :) I am getting fed up with cleaning all the tree crap off my bus and wondered if its possible or advisable to put it through a car wash :?

I asked at the one at Asda and the fella said it wouldn't work because of the slope of the windscreen?

Thoughts?

Honestly, I wouldn't put anything through a car wash, let alone my bus! Those things do no end of damage to the paint on your vehicle..... it might look all nice and clean when it comes out, but actually it's covers in millions of tiny little scratches that, over time, will dull your pant work.

Hand washing, using the two bucket (with grit filters) method and microfibre mits is the way forward if you want to keep your ride looking good. that, and regular clay barring and polishing....

oh, and if at all avoidable, don't park under tress or where birds do their business!! :D

In all the supermarkets that I work in (Sainsbury) most have them doing the hand car wash whilst you shop. Costs a £5.00 and £7.00 with a good polish. I dare say they would charge a little more for your bus, and they may have difficulty getting to the middle of your roof, but if you brought with you what you use whether it`s a long handle mop, or a short set of steps. These peeps work really hard to earn their money and do a pretty good job. Nice to hear from you as well

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,I`ve never actually washed mine   8)

I concur! I wouldn't put my wheelie bin through a car wash, have you seen those bristles close up? far too aggressive.

Likewise - the hours I've spent on various cars we've owned polishing paintwork to remove the circular scratches those things put into the paintwork :( - they really are nasty nasty contraptions - I hand wash or if I'm feeling lazy take it to my friendly polish car wash place :)

The technical answer is yes, of course you can use one. The washers use sensors to know where the vehicle is and adjusts accordingly, to suggest otherwise means that they could only wash one shape of car :) Ive put bays and T25s through them loads in the past.

Alll that said, I agree with everyone else and would never use one on mine nowadays. DIY, or use the hand wash or supermarket car park guys. :)

Thankyou wise people :) I know I should do it myself but the roof is a bitch to get too and the arthritis in my shoulder makes it even harder, I cleaned it before I put it away after Dubs at the Pub but the black crap from the tree has got through the JK cover and it looks ****.

I will try and find a hand job but never seen one loval?

And Hello Ozzie!!! we are thinking of having a very late (Bonfire Night) camp in the field be nice if you could come :) x x x

if you take it to a supermarket jet wash, raise the roof, take a step ladder, could you get a 'willing' friend or family member to use the foam brush seting and give it a scrub for you?

Cheers Doris :) but no one likes me lol, she's a tin top bte ;)

I will try n find a hand job ;) x x x

in all honesty a bay window bus is the best shape of car to wash in a car wash. the brushes work by sensing current drain and back off when limits are met. the flat sides of a bus mean that the brushes will back off sooner than a low sports car for example. sticky outty bits are the biggest no no, like rear spare wheels on 4x4s as the jam the brush as the more current it senses the more it lifts.
i used to serivce them for a few years a while back. would i use one? not a chance    and as for the reused water :? it smell like crap and is indeed full of salt.
the hand car wash places always ignore the roof on my t4 so it either doesnt get done or i spend the two hours it takes me to clean it properly :( .
as for my bay. i am sure i will pamper it in all the spare time i will have when im not building the bloody thing :D

Ozzie, have you ever seen the colour of the water the muppets in Sainsbury's car park use ?

I thought they were selling some sort of mud pack for cars !

I also thought of taking my bus to them for a wash - it would have saved me a fortune on Nitromors

Hey Mickey Sam, you must have different dudes down your way doing it, I`ve spent hours watching them wash cars (*** and coffee breaks in the bus  ) These guys use what looks like a wheelie bin on a trolley with a big water tank in it with a tap out the front, this bin thing has a couple of doors to little cupboards and like a big carrying bucket on the top for their bottles of this and that. When these peeps do em they use a small bucket that they get all soapy with, then they turf that and get some fresh stuff to rinse with, then shammy at about 200 miles an hour. Most of em fill up their tanky thing three or four times a day  , BUT,,,,, like with everything, there`s good gangs and poor gangs I spose,

Ozziedog,,,,,,,, Maybe your lot don`t get their water for free or something   ;)

Anyhow,,, me and John the horse could do a mobile car rinseing service after we been on the Stella

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,, Make the girls laugh anyhooooo , ;)

Aw Ozzie you are so cool :) lol

I have taken all your advice in the last month and finally . yesterday took her to the Sainsburys Polish polish peeps :) it was fun! I checked their water was clean and grit free and the fella that did it could not have tried harder to make me happy :D ...

perfect job asked £9 but I gave him £12 as he was so nice, he didnt really speak English but neither does my friend in Newcastle so alls good, will put some pics up .........

Love to all hope you are smiling x x x
