Ok so this weekend im going to have to take the carb off and have it apart. Got a fuel leak which seems to happen at randomly and im not sure why. Last night when it was parked up at an angle so was leaning over towards the drivers side LHD it was leaking more than usual. I've got the 2 new brass bush's of the chap on flebay and got a carb re-build kit coming just hoping i can complete the job and get it working again.

What you think?

Rebuild shouldn't take you long. just give carb a good clean and blow out every orrifice with an air line if you have one to make sure they are clean :D

Looks like yours leaks from the same places mine did - the flea bay brass bushes sorted it out. Watch out for the 2 screws that have to be undone when removing the butterfly from the spindle (that runs in the brass bushes), they can be a bugger to undo if they are siezed; they are very soft and you only geta few chances at undoing them until the head chews off then it a drill out job. Maybe you'll be luckier than I was - fingers crossed!!

Thats good, you boys are giving me some confidence. Anyone recommend a decent Carb Clearner to use? that I can get local i.e halfords etc

halfrauds do decent carb cleaners, i soaked the body in 'Gunk' over night which did the job but the only way to get it really clean is a sonci bath and and the right detergent.

check out these 36s after a bath...

Thats a nice clean set of carbs. Would be nice to have a chemical dip tank at home!!

Ok so Saturday i stripped the carb out to replace the bush's. Only to find out the Solex 30 PICT - 1 doesn't have bush's it's just a flush fitting shaft. So i was a bit pissed as this was where the fuel leak was coming from. So cleaned it all up and put it back together. Fired up first time and was running sweet.

Went for a test drive got back and it was dripping a lot of fuel. Took it out again and stripped down, found the was a seal missing from the bolt on the bottom of the float chamber. Put that on, all back together and fired it up again. Job done...... Just need to get the mixture correct now. Well chuffed I managed to do it and it's not leaking for now :D
