I'm trying to work out what to do about my carb. The one that’s on there is rubbish and causing problems. The engine is timed right and idles well but as soon as you get going its like a bucket of nails! You have to open everything up so it sort of works. We're pretty sure its a carb problem.

Now I have a couple of choices I could go all out and go for dual webers (ICT 34) - (easy has helped me out on where to get these - cheers dude) or perhaps go for a refurbed solex - has anyone heard of Lorry Ellis? Apparently he does solex rebuilds???

Spoke to a guy this morning and he said that weber 34 icts were troublesome and that I should go for the 40 IDF - which is £600 notes! That is not going to happen!

Any tips and advise appreciated - ta

I have the 34ict's and have never had any troble with them as of yet!
They do take some time to set up and are obviously not as easy to maintain as a single solex carb.

If I were you I would go for the 34's with the 1600 engine. I have a 1694 with them and they work fine!

If you want to get them timed professionally thoug that is where you could get stung out of your picket.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

34icts everytime, much better than then brosol 34pict4. not too expensive to buy or run and a bit more oomph for your bus.
40s will be expensive to run and you tend to be a bit heavier with your right foot.

These icts sound really good, what are they like to set up from new?, they come ready set up or is it a trip to a garage for a tune up?.

Dell'orto do a good alternative to the ICT, the FRD you can get them as Dual 32s from Eurocarb. Or do like I did and get a pair of 34s from the sates. But ICTs are a good carb, you only need to worry about 36s or 40s if you have a 1776 or higher. IMHO

go for the icts dude! 8) you will love em! no problem, just set em up and off you go :D

I think your right dude...I'll be putting my order into CB performance today. Thanks to all for the tips. I'll let you know how it goes.

easy - did you take yours to a rolling road after you fitted them?

Yea, fitted em and then got em balanced and set up at the rolling road, you get all the best set up then as you can see what is working best for the engine and carbs etc. combined with the timeing :D
