Hi there...

i stupidly ran the petrol too low the other day and the idling has dropped - resulting in the engine cutting out now and again.,..
i got some carb cleaner and that helped a bit,,, then i changed the fuel filter for a new one but since then it a stalls everytime i stop and cant rev it to keep it ticking over

nyone have any problems with new petrol filters??
Ant ideas or help much appreciated,,,, thankyou, Rowan.

i am not very good when it comes to engines but is the filter running with the flow of fuel , Because this may impair the running ????

you have installed it the right way round?

Also as youve allowed the tank to run right down chances are you have disturbed a load of sludge and water in the tank....
drain some petrol into a jar and allow it to settle see what you have in there, if theres water an old trick was to put a bit of meths into the tank and get it mixed in (rock the bus about for a good while) get the revs up on a good run and the meths should carry the water through the carb and out it will run crap for a while....

when i changed the filter i just undid the jubelee clips, pulled out the old one put a cloth down to soak up spilt petrol put new one in thats it - did i do it right??!!

... oh how dirty can a filter be before it needs changing... ?
... new one that i fitted looks quite dirty already...
last of all,, this new fuel filter looks ever so slightly smaller than the one i took off - could i have the wronge filter - or is a filter just a filter? :?

Sounds like you have a lot of crap in the tank and it is inevitable that the new filter will clog up very quickly and you will break down. It might be worth draining the tank to get as much crap out as possible. The ideal thing to do would be to remove the tank and flush it, but you may get away with just draining the tank. If you fit a larger filter it will clog up less quickly than a small one

OK so its only been changed a few days and its vissibly dirty....

either change it for a washable filter and clean it daily (but you'll be doing that all year) till the sediment has settled or prefferablby remove the tank and flush it, seal it and refit......

filter size shouldnt be that restrictive the bore is the same size isnt it...

Oh ditch the jubs and get fuel clips the last thing you want is to rupture a fuel line.
