Hi,

Decided to listen to all your sensible advice and invest in some window rubbers.

I've had about 5 different recomendations where to get these from mostly conflicting.

I want to keep the deluxe trim inserts also.

Do you think this is a job a total novice can manage or is it worth paying a proffessional to do the work?

Dave

Anyone can do it, but assembling the deluxe trim can be a pain in the @rse. Some babyoil or something like that might help, I've also used normal flat head screw driver to keep the groove open while putting in the trim.

I go in this order:
1) rubber around the window
2) delux trim to rubber
3) thread or wire to body groove of the rubber
4) window to car

In last step you need a couple of mates pressing/tapping the glass in place, while you pull the tread inside so that the package slips into it's place. Try to figure out the right pulling direction, that your not cutting your new seals with the tread or to steel edge. It's not hard, I even put windscreen and rear window to my Oval alone.

best place i found was Status.Their rubber have rounded corners wher most cheaper ones have square.Im not up on the delux trim as ive only done standard rubbers.Me and a friend toke about a Day to change every rubber..with regular coffee breaks!!hahaha

Soak the rubbers first as this softens them up a little

ruber to glass then to van.Go to your local craft shop and get yourself a ball of WAX coated string..this is less likley to snap like normal stuff does.

If you need a more detailed disciption of how to do it,feel free to drop me a pm and ill write it all out for you.

Like i said you will have to sort ot the ease of the delux trim yourself but glad to help in any other way i can. :D
Just dont askmee how to do Scrappers as they are a propper pain in the Ar*e

Unless you're in a huge rush wait until Dubfreeze (17th of Feb).

All the big suppliers will be there and you will save a fair bit of cash if you buy your seals at 'show prices'.....

thats not always the case i planned to buy my full set of rubbers from barclay at status vw at the last show i was at ( bathgate scotland ) and his prices were dearer than on his website ive come to the conclusion that traders think at a show if they make out the prices are dearer and then have them marked down that people wont notice and pay what they ask a bit like dfs with their dodgy sofas

Try Custom and Commercial, they always discount by at least 10% at shows, I've always bought my window rubber kits from them at shows, saved a fortune...

Why not pop over to Schofield's as not that far for you in Glossop.

Open Saturday's and if you will get discount. Just ask for it and then flash the cash.

I've attached the link to their site.

Their website shows only a small fraction of what they sell. They also have 2nd hand parts etc..............

Always ask for Rick if you can

Try and find a windscreen fitter to fit them it will save you a lot of hassle and £30 in his pocket is deffo worth not having the grief

Warm water, of course!

;)

Looks like a thread crash but hopefully this is relevant:

It's always bugged me the principle of putting the seals in water before you fit them, yes warm water will make them softer and easier to fit but doesn't that mean you are inevitably going to catch some moisture inside the seal against the body somewhere?

I had that thought to dude also leaking water intot he body work!

Has anyone thought about a quick spin in the tumble drier or would that contract them being dry?
