hi i am currently rebuilding my camper bare metalling everything. i got some great etch primer which i have primed most of the body panels (the ones that are left anyway) but i was wondering what people used for the chassis floors (underside) and the floors etc (inside). what i would like to do is prime as i go through it, the internal floor is completely bare at the mo (hours with a grinder with a wire brush on it). what have you guys used for each coat. did you spray or brush on and how has it lasted. i dont want to waxoil it as i think people see straight through this as a cover up job. and i want to get my van honest and lasting.

get back to me with your feedback cheers

I know what you mean about leaving your van looking 'honest' - but Waxoyl is incredible stuff! I'm currently stripping the 20 year old Waxoyl from under my bus and in many places it is still sticky, I'm sure that this must help to protect it from stone-chips and the like - once mine is done I'll be re-Waxoyling it for sure!

;)

I agree with the por15 for underneath but i'd still clear waxoil it on top too just to make sure. As for inside just normal topcoat amd laquer should do fine if it's exposed but maybe waxoil if its covered with flooring 8)

had a chat to the guys at frost restorations today. and they recomended treating the complete uderside with an etching solution to completely kill any rust on the chassis and pan. then do two coats with por-15 rust preventive paint in silver. apparently this stuff is the business. at 28 notes a litre it doesnt appear to be the cheapest method is this where you guys go for your stuff?

Shop around and do a google search or something as i know Frosts are kinda expensive. Mind you saying that POR15 is pretty damn expensive but worth every penny in my eyes. You can also get it to tie in with the colour of the van as they do a few colours 8)

There is a thread in the general chat section about the same subject so check out the answer i gave them 8)
