Right, I'm pretty poor at most thing electrical and this is no difference. Our van has the standard dash lighter socket and an extension one in the back, which I'm not sure what it runs off. The issue is, neither work, but have done previously.

Where is a good place to start looking for the fault?

Thanks in advance

Check the fuses first, that's easiest, then trace the wiring back to either a junction or earth and make sure they are complete.
As I understand them, they are just two terminals shorting each other out when you use them, which creates heat so nothing particularly mechanical to go wrong.

Good luck.
