Why is there a difference in memory use of my external hard disk? When you go to Computer, right click the thing that accesses you to the hard disk, then choose Properties, it says that 93 GB is used. Then when I enter it, then Control+A(select all), then right click and choose Properties, it says 85 GB. Why is there an 8 GB difference?

I think it's something to do with the space used by window itself windows 7 is massive

Correct! Your hard drive is partitioned, so as the Operating System can be installed on it.
Nowadays 85Gb is not a lot of memory left to play with so I would seriously start considering installing another HD as back up. 1TB minimim.
