So plan to use my reverse lights as my indicators.

I have these new rear us spec lights

https://www.customandcommercial.com...r_light_unit_all_red_lens_62-7fslash71_10801/

So what wiring do I need to change, I know I need to run some new wires front to back but are they for the indicators or the tail lights or do I need to them for both?

I've just done this on my 71 but i used UK spec rear lights, same principle though.

Look at these wiring diagrams https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/1968-69Bus_TurnBrake.jpg https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/baybus_6869a_headlights.jpg
keep pin 58 on the rear as a tail light feed, pin 54 feed (black/ yellow and black/ red) take from the rear light unit and connect to the reverse light (reverse feed wire disconnected first).

Run a wire from front to back, at the rear connect to now available pin 54 (stop light) and piggy back to the opposite light.

At the front is where the 68 wiring diagram looks different to my 71, mine has a hazard switch which i removed the feed from the brake pressure switch (pin 54), i connected this to the new feed to brake lights.

On the 68 wiring diagram if you look at item J (flasher relay?) try removing the green wire to pin 54, the one which is fed from items J1 and J4 and connecting this to your new brake light feed.

Hopefully that works, there are other ways it's been done, i opted for running a new wire with extras for gauges all in one.

Chris.

Just a single run from front to back to feed brake lights, piggy back from left to right.

The original wiring, black/ yellow and black/ red will feed the indicators.

The original feed controlled brake light and turn signal, by disconnecting the brake feed to this at the front, it will now work as just a turn signal feed.

The disconnected brake feed is then fed down the single new wire.

It is possible to do the conversion without running the wire if you don't want to.
There is a link on here somewhere that I have posted before or you can search for it on line.
It was featured in camper and bus I think.

No worries, should have added I retained the revers light as reverse lights then used green bulbs to make them shine orange through the red lens.
I need my reverse lights to help me back into the garage at night.

my OG lights were trashed so bought these brand new

https://www.customandcommercial.com/vw-baywindow/baywindow_lights--and--lenses/baywindow_rear_light_parts/complete_usa_spec_rear_light_unit_all_red_lens_62-7fslash71_10801/

then planned to use the reverse lights for the indicators, so not sure if I need to follow that guide word for word as when i had a quick scan the guide is fitting UK spec rear lights i guess i just need to use whatever wiring they are using for the top indicator up to my reverse lights?

I was lucky and had a new loom so just wired the reverse lights straight as indicators.

I just plan on having a spot on the bumper for reverse light?
