Hi, Ive only had my Bay for about 7 weeks and was wondering if anyone could advise me....

I have a US westy with the external power socket , how can i convert this to use in the UK. Can i just buy the correct plugs externally and internally? Would this work as it does seem to go through a mini fuse box...

Any help would be great.

This is what i'm going to do, you might want to aswell.

my 69 westy is a US import, and has a 110v socket on the drivers side most likely just like yours, i've cut the cable off under the buddy seat, and am going to leave it right there as it looks cool, and i dont want to remove stuff that came with the van back in the day. Also the mini fuse board you have looks like a kind of switch with a fuse in it? cut off all cables and dont use that either.

for my mains hook up, I'm going to put a blue 230v "MK commando" plug in the engine bay out the way some where which will then feed my 2 way RCD fuse board which will be under my rock and roll bed. this mini fuse board will then feed a socket and possibly some lights or something.

And in the future i'll incorperate this in with a "Zig" unit and some sort or charging system. A zig unit in case your wondering is an outlet for all of your power and lighting needs. I didnt really know what was before i got my camper as i would of never needed one in my 62 beetle!!

I wouldnt bother trying to convert anything like this in your van, just start a fresh, you'll need the same amount of materials anyway, and you want it to be safe, new, and able to trip out fast should there be a problem.

hope this helps mate.

Hi Mate

Have a looksie here http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2602&start=60" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I did mine earlier this year, any Qs just ask. The plug that fits the US side socket on your van is a bit more difficult, i imported some a few years ago from the US, you wont get any over here, so either ask about or you may get lucky on fleebay or simular.
