Firstly, I'm sorry as to many this will be a stupid question.

When changing my crank/flywheel oil seal I was using a bar across the block face and a lever on that. I slipped and pushed the crank which went in a few mm. It pushed back again by pushing the bottom pully. Is that OK?

Its a rebuilt engine with 1500 miles on it. I don't know enough about these engines to know what holds the crank in position so I have no idea if I've done something bad? Is it the flywheel that stops it moving which obviously wasn't on?

Yep, this will happen.
Check it again when the flywheel is re-fitted.

The movement (end float) should be between 0.07-0.13mm or 0.0027-0.0051 inches.
