Hi as part of my ongoing resto of my money pit, i am trying to remove the CV Joints.
The problem is that the splines on the heads are are worn away.
Has anyone any good tips to remove them, had them soaking in oil over night.

Thanks
Gary

There are two ways that have worked for me first is a good pair of mole grips this works most of the time or try tapping a 6mm allen key in best use one on a socket it will kipper the bolts but there scrap anyway .When they are out replace them with some allen bolts they are a lot better than the originals.

Be careful with stud extractor/easy out they have a tendency to snap due to being made of high carbon steel, once snapped you wont be able to drill one out as they are harder than the drill.

Soak with penetration oil, plusgas etc leave for at least overnight. One trick I have used with ceased studs that some times gets them started is to tighten slightly first to brake the seal then back out.

I would go the mole/pipe grip route first, if you cut the heads off I don't know if you will have enough clearance to get the drive shaft out, the shaft of the studs still being in place, better to grind flats on the out side of the head and use an adjustable spanner first.

If youve rounded out with an allen key, then tap in (with a small hammer) a correct torq splined tool, this has saved me on a few occasions!
