Hi,

Been driving a Seat Leon Cupra for the past two years as my daily but since i got the house and the bus i've been seriously skint!

Going to sell the Cupra and get something else a bit cheaper looking to spend 2-3k

Now should i try and buy a dub or do i go for a cheap and chearful piece of crap just to get me to work? I always wanted a notch but for that cash it wouldnt be a good one and work is a 50 mile a day round trip!

any idea's?

At 50 miles a day you could get away with a GTi, but they are not grear on fuel. I would look for a small nippy petrol, say a Lupo that you can mod up & have asome fun with. Or just play save & get a small french diesel.

I had a Pug 106 1500D. It was slow on the pull away, but 90mph on the motorway & did 60MPG. It was cheap as chips to fix & you can run in on chip fat!

You can't get any cheaper. You can get them from £500.

go cheap and cheerfull diesel fella and put cash to your pride and joy...... run it on veg oil/deisel mix even cheaper...

Yer i was thinking that to be honest cos i car share with two other guys from work anyway so i only have to drive it 1 week out of three anyway and the missus is going to be learning to drive soon (not the van mind) so something cheap would suit her to learn in.

I drove my 66 bug for 6 months, 70 miles a day there and back to work. Rush hour driving isnt much fun anyway and the winter salt and water have all taken their toll, but i have to say it was alot of fun but not the most practicle thing to do, but 'needs must' after i blew the engine on my 1.9d megane

I would definetly get a cheap cheerful diesel, ween it on to biofuel gradually and save the pennies from the extra mileage and cheaper fuel, put them towards the bus.

I'm running a Golf Plus 110 TDI now, that was willed to me by my sister at the start of this year. A great family car and does 55ish to the gallon on long runs. Its a long way from the bug, i do see the advantages of it and more importantly the savings  .

i always used to run a golf tdi. Great on diesel, cheapish to ensure and would happily break the speed limit at any oppurtunity( not me the car). Should get a very nice one for your budget, plus it`s still a VW.

I love the Cupra lots of power but he tax and insurance these days are getting silly and if i only use it one week a month seems a waste of cash!

I did want to buy VW for the run about but they hold their value well so a golf for 2k i'm looking at one thats done 100k at least and a fair few years older than if i bough a french car!

Go for a Honda.
Yes it's a jap car but the engine's go for ever.

I would never have considered a Honda a few years back but go an Accord as a company car and since then converted, so much i got my wifa a CR-V.

If you talk to most people in the motor trade they will say the same.

Yea i know what your saying as felt that way a few years back. Before the Accord I had a new shape 5 series and was the best car i'd ever owned and when i found out that i was getting the Accord was really pissed off, but after a while that changed.

I got Zoe the CR-V as i knew it would be realiable and in the 18 months we have owned it it has never missed a beat. We got it 2nd hand with low milage and ran out of warranty after 6 months and the last thing you want is to pay out for work needed.

I bought a RHD 64 notch for my daily drive :D it cost a bit but is worth it. I do around 40+ miles a day, so am putting a mild 1776 in to keep up with traffic and give me some nice reliability :D

Go for a type 3 doood they rule! 8)

......and here comes the plug,
If you want a nice daily driver, thats cheap to run and costs 3K, buy my Clio :)
2002 black with air con and all the mod cons.

the van is my daily drive...I do cycle to work and use the bus so I don't use it everyday but I do consider it my daily.

I look at it this way - I could buy another car but that would cost me more money...I might as well use that money to keep the bus going so I can use it daily....and I love driving it whenever I can.

I love driving my bus but i think if i had to take the cover on and off every time i wanted to go anywhere i'd get pretty sick of it pretty quickly!

Bought an R reg Mazda 323 two and a half years ago after destroying my van engine in the middle of France and getting flown home with no van (it turned up about six weeks later). Still using it when the roads are wet and it is comfy, quick, not too bad to insure, good bass on the stereo and I haven't had any bother at all...touch wood. I never thought I'd say it but I can fully recommend the mighty Mazda!

Bought a Rav4 as a daily a year ago ( old R reg) and have done 13,000 miles, just passed its MOT without even a cautionery, ive had 1 oil change, and 1 wiper in a year and only ever open the bonnet to top up the washers....so damn boringly reliable. If the van could go over 65 in less than 20 minutes 'it' would be my daily.
