I have a set of dell. twin 40 carbs and although it is a bit over the top for a 1641 engine, has anybody else fitted them to this size engine and will it cause any probs? I intend to fit a 4 into 1 exhaust and have a 009 dizzy on at the moment. Any advise appreciated. Thanks

As long as you get an appropriately small set of chokes for them(28 or 30) and the right jets etc would think they will be alright.

yes not long fitted to our 1600tp, with 28 chokes as pic, do spend the time to get them set up proper. I also found it was easier to pull the motor out to fit them as you cannot get to the back nuts etc. whilst 40's are a bit big it gives the option for further capicity increase

Also changed the pipe to help it let the gas out a bit better

It pulls a lot better now up hill's etc also

How are you finding that oil breather? does it leak?
have you plumbed the fuel breather into anything or just left it open?

That type breather was on the van when we got it, I did recently changed it to a new K&N that I had laying round from my rallying days, so far no problems. The oil over the paint work is from the crank oil seal which has been gone since we bought the van (3 years)  , need to get it fixed.

The fuel tank has a breather pipe on each side (the pipes you can see if you look in the vents) that come round the rear quarter panels into the engine bay, they are then normally connected together by a T piece that is then routed into the air filter. Was thinking I could just vent this out to the ground when I fit my 36 DRLAs?

Pre 72 dont have this breather I think.

pre 71s....

they are part of the emmission controls the fuel vapour condenses and is released through the filter and burnt off....
