Hi,

I need some replacement bumper trim for my 68 deluxe - and from what I can tell, the choices are as follows:

a) Custom & Commercial (but they don't seem to list the rear trim on their website)
b) 'ppp' from this forum (based in Thailand)
c) Look for an NOS or very good used set (do I want to wait for an eternity?)

I don't want to die waiting, nor do I want to buy half a set - so option (b) seems my only real option!

WRT the trim from 'ppp' has anybody from the forum seen these in person (link below) - or know anybody who has a set - or maybe even got a set?

Only I'm wondering how they compare to the original VW bumper trim i.e...
- Are they made from the same material as OEM trim?
- Will they polish/age in the same ways as OEM trim?
- Would they be flexible i.e. in terms of getting them to fit flush to your bumper - as I presume that not every earlybay front/rear bumper is identical in its shape/profile?

I've PM'd 'ppp' but in the meantime thought I'd open it up to the forum. Any thoughts/responses would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Mike

I personally would keep an eye out for an original set mate, they come up from time to time, I have seen a few good sets (and some not so good). I havnt seen the PPP ones, but made in Tailand, China ect ect sounds like wasting your money to me. There are two types early and later for an Early bay, the early one has a thinner rubber insert.....

Hey Just,

As you say, original sets in vgc/nos condition don't show up that often - and when they do, they are priced accordingly!

The trim from PPP certainly looks the part - and I certainly wouldn't say anything unfounded about it. But, yes, I do have reservations about shelling out my hard earned without a level of confidence.

But hey, someone's got to set the ball rolling and be the first! Let's see what happens :)

Cheers,

Mike

It's the cynic in me Mike :msn4: but your quite rite, if it works out then your getting a good deal & someone needs to bite the bullet and go for it 8)

I would hold out until after dubfreeze and volksworld mate, there are always some to be found especially upstairs in the swap meet at vw and you are local

I need a pair of rears ( Desperately) but I will wait for some OG, Would be nice if I could find a pair for £20... Even £20 each!!
Me thinks they going for top dollar at the mo.... Any one spots a deal on a pair of rears there is a drink in it for ya. ;)

If you are looking for early 68 to 69 trim them it is pretty hard to find. The fronts come up far more often than rear. However the rear is identical to 66/67 rear euro spec so you can get it from Creative new. Or you can find a euro spec front and bend it to fit as it is the same give or take 10 mm. C&C had front repro for about £120 a while back with rubber.
