Disconnect auto choke

John Muir States on page 133 that the auto choke is a waste of time and should be disconnected. What are people's thought please?

If it was unnecessary VW would have deleted it to save money.

My thoughts exactly but I think mine may be playing up so something I was looking into

They're really not a bad design. You set them up once, and as long as you've got power to them they pretty much work for 40 odd years happily enough. Miles better than applying throttle at traffic lights for ten minutes.

If I remember rightly - he said get rid of the choke and each time you start it,roll a ***, smoke it, then drive off. Government Health warnings would advise against.....

That's what he said. "Role a *** whilst it warms up" I was reading it as I was having cold start issues

Hehe. Join Muir's book is more like "Zen & the art of motorcycle maintenance" than a workshop manual. It's a good read and gives you some decent information, but some of it's...well, nonsense.
