So if you had to replace your dizzy with something new cos it was not giving you very crisp timing, what would you replace it with and why??

I want electronic ignition of some sort, too lazy for points! and not adverse into looking at wasted spark sysems too

so what's the bestest and why?? had better throw a budget into the mix - lets say upto £200

thanks

D

engine is in a bus, twin dells with vac take off, and is 1745cc in size.........

I'm gonna step out of line here and say if you have a nice usable cam like a 110, there's nothing wrong with a Bosch 009 and Pertronix 2 ignition. No vacuum leaks to worry about either.
You don't need to spend loads on a dissy for that size motor.

What crank you running by the way, I've never heard of 1745cc before. :?:

I would guess a 76mm with stock b&ps, as my 74mm crank with stock b&ps makes 1699cc.

correct :D 76mm cb crank, Mahle forged 85.5 B+P's and DRD G03 heads with 3 angle valve job.......

I have a vac dizzy but I think the shaft or somethings worn as the timing isn't tight, I was thinking of crank timing and ford edis but not sure - I haven't yet found a decent source for decent 009's - most are junk with advance curves that are inconsistent

the repro vac ones are they any good or should I plump for a 123dizzy? and if so with or without vac?

the 1745 was an experiment - it was tricky to do in terms of deck height and shims, it does mean that when I decide to go 90.5 I'm there in terms of carbs/heads - I wasn't ready at the time to do it all!

anyway back to Dizzy's -anymore suggestions??

I can't say from experience but if I had the money I think I'd go with the 123 dizzy - a complete unit from one trusted/quality supplier with a good reputation (from what i have read)

it's in my choices but at the upper end of my budget - who's had good experiences of repro vac dizzy's?

I am currently running a genuine new Bosch SVDA with normal points that runs very well - no noticable flat spots and pulls well. Just like the idea of lower maintenance modern electronic ignition.

Heritage - they're about £100 - or at least that's what I paid about 18 months ago.

I assume it's got a fair bit of torque?
