As some of you my know im trying to sell my MG. Had lots of tossers ring up but no buyers yet. :x

Hello

I like your car, could you send me some more pictures? do you accept
to be paid,in cash in Euro?and if I come to see the car could you
pick me up at the airport?
You know I would like to come to see the car and if it's good I would
like to go back with the car it's for that than i want to pay cash in
Euro.
Hope read you soon.
Excuse my poor English.
M GRAVELEAU

What do people recon. I know we go abroad to buy our vans so why shouldnt they come to us to buy decent cars.

theres lots of counterfeit euros, personally i wouldnt want to take the hit on the exchange other than that no more precautions than any other, as you say we do it all the time the otherway....

I'd go with it, see how you get on... if the airport isn't close, stick him on a train. Don't meet him in the car though, if you pick him up from the station/airport pick him up in something else and take him to the car. Also take him and his cash directly to your bank before you release the car.

As above, get him to exchange his euros for sterling, if he is serious he wont mind. The next bit is obvious but DO NOT TELL HIM LOCATION OF CAR. If you are close to airport yeah go to pick him up but be prepared for a no show.

my mate sold his Volvo to a guy from up north last year, the chap came down on a train with 14k in pound notes. after a quick test drive and the guy saying he would have it (it was an ebay thing) my mate took him straight to tescos where he has a saving account and handed it over.
they took them to a back room and one guy was verifying the notes, the next guy counted and the manager recounted and bagged it up so my mate never actually touched the cash.

the point of the story is that the 14k was in 1000 pound bundles of various notes and a couple of them were "light" so the buyer had to go to the cash machine and pull out a bit more.
so although the guy was nice enough he was still "trying it on" and he took the car there and then not even giving my mate a lift home!

to be honest there is a lot of scammers on the web but also a lot of honest people looking to buy stuff. maybe email him and ask where he saw it, tell him its sterling only and if it works out check the cash properly!

good luck fella

When I sold my MG I had loads of spares that the new owner didn't want.
So I put them on ebay and got loads of interest/will you post to France,Australia and USA.So I would say yes going by the interest I had but you never know .

Sold a bike to a guy in ireland and rode it to the airport, he paid me in £'s then rode it to the port.

is he trying to pay in euros because it works out cheeper for him? your at an airport cant you change the euros to sterling there and then?

personally i would get his number and call him than make your mind up.

Since writing this i have had 2 enquires from France, 1 from Italy and 1 from Norway is there a market for MGs in Europe. :D

I sold a Passatt recently to a girl from Poland.
I nearly binned the initial pigeon inglish email for my 'lowest price', but she completed for cash on inspection and it was the easiest deal Ive ever done on a car.

He's probably asking for euros as that much cash needs to be ordered in advance through a bank here,
you can't just exchange on the day.
If you ask for the correct £ amount in € lodged and verified into your bank with both of ye present you should be fine.

There is a growing classic car movement in Europe boosted by the favourable exchange rate and I know of a couple of dealers who have moved their buisness to Spain.

On top of the exchange rate there is also the fact the recession seems to be biting harder over here so cars seem to be getting cheaper too, with this in mind it does seem feasable that some one would be coming here to nab a deal.

I wonder how long it will be before Early Bays start heading for Europe :?

There is a site you can check an Email address for past scam activity scamcheck.com if it helps.

I just sold my porsche to a guy i never met or even spoke to and who didn't even view the car!!! Couple of photo's, a few emails, no haggling, cheque sent and cleared, he didn't even collect it - sent a transporter for it!!!

All my other hobby cars, buying and selling, have involved bundles of £20's - no problems so far. I bought my first bus from Steve Walker for £4000 (i wish i could by it for that now!!!) I gave him the cash and he just put it in his pocket, didn't bother counting it

I sold my old Austin A30 to a guy in holland, he drove over left me with his car and trailer whilst on test drive, came back exchanged lots of pound notes and left with a smiley face on. There is a big scene in europe for mg`s, austins and morris minors, so go with it, just be sensible when they want to come and see it.

Change the euro's into pounds at the airport or at the bank afther he did a testdrive.

I can understand he doesn't want to change before he did a testdrive, if it is not what he is looking for he has te change it all back and there are some cost there...

That's how I bought my bay, with the addition of a couple of phone calls.
