Does my alternator have a built-in regulator?

Hi

I recently purchased a 1972 crossover model that is in need of a lot of TLC. Whilst the engine is being rebuilt I thought I'd start with the electrics.
I understand the engines originally had a generator + regulator for maintaining the battery, but I appear to have an old alternator in mine (Bosch 0 986 031 120). Does anybody know if this alternator is internally regulated? I still have the regulator attached but wonder if it is still required and if I can now bypass it.

Thought as much. Any tell tale signs that give it away ? I note it's stamped at 14v

It needs to be between 13.8v to 14.2 v to overcome the internal resistance in the battery to charge.

Remove the screws holding the slip ring brushes and you should see a black plastic box inside. Check the slip rings for excessive wear and replace brushes if necessary
