Just about the only thing that's not original on my '71 Dormy is the carpet in the back (it's been replaced with some Lino). Am I correct in thinking they originally had funky orange carpet on the floor?

I also have an original untouched dormobile see my thread http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1563, although there is no picture of the carpets I do infact have some original carpet left in my van so I will take a picture so you can have a look!

Nice van by the way!!!!!

Carpet is described in 31/12/69 Dormobile price list as Gold / Black or Red / Black "Jute" cord (pretty sure Rikki James's old van had original orangy gold coloured carpet.)

October 1971 price list describes floor covering as Gold Nylon / "Evlan" carpet or neat patterned Vynolay. Under optional extras, Vynolay in lieu of carpet was available for no extra charge.

I have an April 71 D4/6 in pastel white and it has what I suspect (and hope) is Dormobile fitted lino which is kind of off white with black and gold bits sort of "spattered" on - a bit like anti graffiti type paint you get in public bogs!! though I have only ever seen 2 other D4/6s with this lino. I think the guy who ordered mine new was expecting to get it a bit dirty in the back as he also ordered "vynide" vinyl seat covering in lieu of brushed nylon.

A very nice van you have Rich - I took loads of photos of it at Stanford Hall 3 years ago and have been using it as reference for my part restoration. Its been slow going but I hope to complete later in the Summer - it would be great to see our vans together some time as I reckon they were pretty identical when new!

I have taken a photo of the original bit i have left.

Thanks for the info guys.

Fantastic van Dean! I have a few (what I think are) original carpet fragments left. They are much brighter orange than in your pictures, although yours is a 70 and mine a 71 so they could well have changed during that one year.
I'll get some pics later today.

That is the orange that I seem to remember.

The now very rare D4/8 model that I sometimes went to school in (another parent's bus) I seem to recall had similar bright orange curtains too. :D

Thanks Doug. I do have the original funky orange curtains for the bus. I'll pop down to the carpet shop at the weekend to see if I can find some suitably orange stuff to match.

I would love to see a picture of the curtains,i also have the original curtains but appear to have two different types for the front and rear,i am not sure which ones are original. There is a guy thats now selling carpets/front mats at the shows and he is using a material that looks very similar,i will try to find his details if you like?

Yes please Dean- that would be great if you can find his contact details. Is he specifically selling Dormobile stuff?

I will dig the curtains out when I get the chance and get some pics.

My pastel white 71 dormy had the same type of carpet as this but it was sandy gold instead of orange. The original curtains were bright orange with brown brushed nylon seat material. (hideously ugly I thought but I left it until the sun caused both the curtains and the seats to literally start falling apart  This happened when it was about 8 years old.

I bought a complete set of seat covers and curtains from dormobile though by 1979 they no longer sold the original materials so i changed to green. Recently the seat covers gave out again and have been replaced for the second time now but the curtains are still ok ....for now.

If your dormy has its original curtains in orange (with the annoying press stud fittings for the cab area) then its a rarity - must have been kept in a dark garage all its life.

I'd like to see some pics if poss - just so I can have a bit of a nostalgic reminisce
