Driving in the rain, at night

So I was driving home from the ferry last night and the rain was coming down like crazy. Wipers work ok, but I get terrible smearing. It made driving rather unpleasant! Any way I can improve this?
I know it's a 45 year old car but it seems to have got really bad. I'm wondering if it is the wiper blades.

New wipers & clean the screen with a bit of thinners??

Don't copy me, but,,,,
I use to use the car body polish on mine , made the rain bead up & run off!!!!!

Get new wiper rubbers and make sure they're quite soft!

Rain X or similar will help a lot. Or, as said, a decent coat of wax buffed off.

I use car polish aswell, the rain just glides off the screen without the use of wipers :lol:
