Great little 1968 Westfalia who's last owner in the USA was the wife of Late Great Chet Helms, the legendary music promoter of San Francisco in the 60s and 70s check out http://www.chethelms.com/ for more info on this funky guy!!
Anyway this bus belonged to his wife Judy Davies till i exported it to the UK last month.
From the stack of history and bills that comes with the bus she has owned it from 1995.
But its history can be traced back to the 27th of May 1968 when Osman Beller walked into Volkswagen Pacific in Pomona California and placed his order for this bus on the Tourist Delivery Program.
He was to pick his bus up in Germany on the 21st of June 1968.
The first date stamp in the owners manual is on the 21st of June 1968 from VW in Munchen (munich)
The next stamp is the free of charge 1000km service 3 days later at VW Uznach with the miles reading 768!!
I guess he then drove around some more and finally had the bus delivered back to the USA where he had the bus serviced several more times at the Pomona dealership.
The last dealer stamp was the 17th of the 9th 1969.
The huge stack of bills that Judy kept since 95 makes interesting reading.
The bus has had paintwork in the past (bills show 1997) and the sink unit is not present but i have not checked the M codes to see if it was there from the factory.
Still has its stool though!!
There is a usable Catalina awning above the side door (and still has its instructions)
They installed an external cooler on the side but this could be removed with only 2 small holes and the small screw holes that will need sorting.
Other than that its a great useable bus with a history you just dont find anymore, especially at this price.
Remember its not a new one and does need some tlc but its not 10k either.
Price will include a full mot, if you wish to take the bus as is make a close offer!!
Bus can currently be viewed in Bournemouth for next few days then will be coming to Torbay.
£6500 with full mot ready to go.
