Right, Simon(windsurfer) and i are trying to sort a surf trip, around the 22/23rd August

We've decided on south wales, i know there are a few eb'ers down that way.

The obvious campsite is Hillend(i've never been but its sounds good) The prob i've got is that we've got a dog and Hillend don't allow them :(

I normally surf north devon and don't know the south wales area. So can anyone offer any suggestions to a good dog friendly campsite that is very close to a decent/consistent break in south wales?

I've found this place http://www.pittoncross.co.uk/info.cfm or http://www.gowercamping.co.uk/index.html

anyone fancy it?

can you recommend somewhere?

I should be there, Hillend is a great site but shame they won't take dogs.

I'll have a look at what other sites are near.

Hi Ant

I can only seem to find the sites you have put down.

The last time I went to Hillend it was full, but they allowed us to stay in the overflow carpark (a field right by the beach), it was great and I would assume that they would not care about dogs. I doubt if they would turn you away.

Think i remember seeing on thier site that it stated "strictly no dags".

Is there a car park near the beach? If there is its not really a prob where we stay, we can just convoy down park up and go surf.

From what people have told me, the camp sites are just the other side of the beach (behind the sand dunes). It would ba a case of 'walk over the dunes and you're on the beach'. No need to drive at all :D

Just have your Stik under your arm

Don't know how possible this is, but when I was there a couple of weeks ago the No Dogs sign was well up and in your face, but I noticed one camper had parked in field 3 as close to the beach path as possible and had tethered their dog just the other side of the fence so that technically the dog was not on the site. I guess they move it inside at night but didn't see any more. Risky, but its a great site and location and plenty of dogs on the beach.

The set up down there is a bit odd, but in a cool spot and set up for surf and sea sports. The camping fields are spread out in a line adjacent to the beach. between the dunes and the campsite is a carpark and overflow carpark, which are pretty much like the campsite, you can walk straight through.

I would take the risk and camp up in the carpark and just make sure you tell the guys on the gate and pay for the night. I don't think they would turn you away once you are there.

Give me a ring if you want to get more detail.

Here's the web site for Hillend - http://www.hillendcamping.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's a pain that dogs aren't allowed - It's all because of some kid that kept taunting a dog that was tied up...... The owner told the kid to leave his dog alone and after a while, the dog bit the kid and the campsite got sued!!!!!

There's a campsite at Broughton (just around the corner). I can't remember the name but they allow dogs........

As much as i want to stay as near to the coast as poss and considering the distance traveled and risk(however small) of being turned away due to the dog issue we are going to have to book in somewhere dog friendly and meet you guys at the beach :(

A real shame, but I understand, it is a long trip. If the weather is good you'll love it there.

Still up for this, I am loving camping in the bus more every time I go. Not even rain from 7.00pm til the following morning can put me off

I've been to Pitton Cross before, its not brilliant and its at the wrong end of the beach and its a long drive round to the surf spot by Hillend, If you can get into Hillend you will be a lot better off.

fingers crossed i will be there with you guys!maybe on the vans mayden voyage!wish me luck

Will it be just for the weekend, or might you be around before? Like thurs and fri. If so i may be interested, but would have to leave saturday.
