Having had the usual glance of bus prices, i cannot believe the prices people are asking

one earlybay is up for £12k with the comment "it's not mint as if it was i'd be after 30 grand" - then goes on to mention runs in paint, leaky roof and bumpers missing

a later bay is up for 20 grand with a dirty interior

has the world gone mad??

next thing petrol will be over 1.20 - oh it is :?:

your right its the bonkers summer sale for vans :!:

its not all bad though - i'm having a looking at a running EB Devon for £1200 today

All bus prices have gone mad......

Gone are the days when you could buy a really nice bay for about £4k and just enjoy it for what it was.

Nowadays everyone wants a 'vintage campervan', and not all for the right reasons either, there are far too many people out there just wanting to make a fast buck, and selling sheds for silly money to unsuspecting buyers.

And because everyone wants one then those that already have one find themselves worrying more than ever before about it getting nicked, or vandalised. Unfortunately buying a campervan nowadays is not for those on a budget.....£4k will just about buy you a roadworthy one, if you're lucky, probably with a very short MOT and lots of filler...

Will the bubble ever burst?

Eventually the bubble will burst, the same thing is happening with Minis, last year there prices were sky high this year they seem to be more realistic, but as always its only worth what someone will pay

Well, if you check out Kieft & Klok, every time I look at their site I'm amazed at what they dare ask for those imports.

I always found K&Ks prices to be quite good plus good customer care and accurate descriptions, very good rep..... there prices although rising have generally been on the low side compared to a lot of others.....

With the way the housing market and economy are going if your reposessed at least you have somewhere to sleep

At least places like K&K know what they are dealing in, have you seen the amount of regular classic dealers starting to muscle in on the bus market.
I bought my Deluxe a little over a year ago for £4500, a solid sunroof model that flew through the mot. I was embarassed to tell anyone how much I paid cos I thought I paid over the odds, now no one believes I gave so little
I would be interested to know how quick some people on here have sold their busses and how much did you get? How do you value an early bay?

i sold my 69 westy tintop for £15750 last year, was asking 16k, took a few months for the right buyer, but i wasnt in a hurry to sell, it was a quality bus, Ultra featured, ive seen similar quality buses selling for the same if not more now, complicated reason for selling (family ilness etc) but im glad i did now, sourced a good replacement i hope

the cream rises to the top,i know carol (baydreamers) sold heres at volksworld with a few hours theres a lot of imports available at the mo to, and you can get a relative bargain if you look hard enough, dave clifford has a bargain beige deluxe for sale at the mo £5400 i think

i payed £750 for mine but to be fair ive spent over £6000 in parts alone so some of the prices are justyfied as i dont regaurd mine as mint

£750 18 years ago - just insured mine again after a 'break' but I think I have insured it way to low, so need to re-adjust. I guess £5k for my RHD '68 (67) Bay is way to low in reality (in terms of what it would cost to replace...)

The problem is that often a buyer will have a budget and see what they can buy with it. The first van they see they think is great and they buy it. This is generally people who haven't necesarilly got too much of a clue about old VWs, but who have seen them, think they look cool and want one (and I'm not knocking that, just pointing out that these are the people who are most likely to get screwed). Shiny paint and the right colour are often key to what sells, regardless of how much filler etc. is under that piant.

I know of a dealer (predominently in type 2s) who often prices cars according to what the buyer has to spend and who generally tarts up not great cars for a quick (often large) profit  . The unfortunate thing is he makes a good living from this and continues to do so year in year out (obviously not relying on repeat business!).

I guess the morale is 'buyer beware'. If all buyers were knowledgeable, I doubt we'd see a lot of this sort of thing.

the price of vans seems to have gone up relative to the housing market. the more folks houses go up the more equity they can release on their mortgages therefore the more they have to throw at a van. now the banks have put the squeeze on borrowing i think we might see the price of vans come back down. i payed 2300 two years ago but like strongy ive probablt payed out 4k in parts etc. if i can do it all for 10k all i'll be pleased tho when its done i dont think it will be a 10k van. but it should be solid.

I have spent about 6k on my van (still more things planned as always), cost was 3500 3 years ago, and that was good at the time. it is an Aus import so nice and solid.

Van has been resprayed and new interior, new engine, lowered, all welding and dents sorted and many more parts i would like to fit.

I could probably get my money back but wont, I like the van to much to consider selling her. We have been to a few places now and have many more trips planned in the future.

I look at some of these places and wonder how they justify selling for so much and then see K&K selling for a lot cheaper.

Still with todays economy, people will spend as much as necissary (can never spell that word) to get what they want. I know I was the same, I like to think i have learnt but time will tell.

Bought our 1970 westy for $3250 which as the pound stood then worked out at £1170 ish that was october last year i know we had to ship it to that was 1100 and a little work but a good honest van for less than £4.5k
