  A defeated man, please help.
Finally managed to fit the spots. Then came the wiring   .
The second picture hopefully shows, with some normality, what is set up.
It is not working and is probably very obvious but I just am not able to get it.
If you can make sense of it and see the solution please help.   :?

The switch I am using is a floor mounted Lucas push button type.
I am guessing this is where I am going wrong. The picture shows how it is wired up at the moment.

Any help appreciated.

Not exactly the same as your setup but I was going to fit both a spot and fog as described in "Keeping your Bus Alive 4".

The wiring diagram (which for the fog light I'm not sure how it works) has a 4 blade relay for each light and is shown as...

(Ignore the ....... they are just to pad the | out!)

Spot Light.

Indicator Switch
........................ |
........................ |
Fusebox -- -- Relay -- -- Spot light
........................ |
........................ |
Main Beam

Fog Light.

Light Switch
................................. |
................................. |
Fusebox -- (Switch)-- Relay -- -- Fog light
................................. |
................................. |
Dipped Beam

The article also mentions an Early Bayer "Doris" who designed the brackets so he might have an idea of how the fogs are wired.
Good luck!

AFAIK the 87 and 87a are different circuits. (normally closed and normally open)

To have the spots come on with main beam you would need them both to be connected to the 87 (normally open circuit).

You should be able to hear the relay click when you switch power on to it from whichever circuit your using.

If the relay has a diode I believe the 85 and 86 will only work wired up one way as well.

Something to try any way.

Hi, have you proved 12V on the terminals of the switch and the relay to a known earth or ground is framework/body?

Do you want the spots coming on independatly from the main beam?

And I would also agree that the switch to the spots should come from one normally open terminal on the relay and not separate terminals.

These are the Manufacturers instructions and if you look at point 2 at the top of the page this says 1 wire to each spot.
So I am thinking that they have made a mistake as this is not how a five pin relay works.
Do I now join up both no's 87 and then use one side of the switch only?

Help still needed please. All bulbs in and power at all correct points.

You're confusing two different types of relay. You need to have a look at yours and see what the two 87's are labelled, one will be '87' and the other will be '87a' or '87b'.

If you've got the 87a that's a changeover relay which means it's no good connecting one spot to each as pin works when the other is off. You can still wire both spots to 87 though. If you've got an 87b pin then that's a double output relay and you can wire one spot to that and the other to the 87 pin.

If you're not sure go to an auto-electrician and ask for advice.

WOOO HOOOO wrong type of relay is the problem.
So hopefully by the end of this weekend we will have working spots.

Mike , you the man thanks so much, did not see the open circuit on the side of the relay.
