I put the Compufire in the bus 4 years ago & haven't had to touch it yet
have had the more popular pertronix in the buggy for over 6 years still no probs

Got a pertronix on my bus fitted 2 years ago and never had a problem.
Only problem I have come across is they burn out if you leave the ignition switched on for too long, but the petronix II over comes this but is slightly more expensive.

Had problems with starting on the way to the Breeze last year so bought a pertronix. SK fitted it but couldn't get it to work. Sent it back and they said it'd been burnt out on fitting. By SK?!! They don't know him! Anyway they sent a replacement free (all but admitting their fault?) but haven't fitted it yet.

I've had Pertronix on 3 different beetles for the last 6 years, starts easier and runs a little better at low revs. Point gapping is boring.

The points will no longer wear out as fast, so they shouldn't need adjusting again. I will let you know how it goes. I know someone with one that hasn't looked at the points in 100,000 miles. The beauty of the system is that if the unit fails you only have to move one wire to return to stock.

Where did you position this in the engine bay?
How easy is it to wire in?

I haven't actually fitted it yet, my father is a electronics wizz, so he assembled the kit for me and it test fires on the bench. Do a search on VZI for it, it came highly reccomended by Angelvenemous and Moby. I have another friend that had one fitted, he is the one that gave up checking his points years ago. I will see if I have time to do it tomorrow, I'll post up the pics.
