Engine codes

My van is currently fitted with a 1.6 twin port engine, engine code is B0, a friend has a spare twin port 1.6 engine code AD

Would this go straight in?

Aye, your B will have started out life as a SP lump, the AD is the TP aug 70>

Check you have the mounting points for the brace bar.

I believe some AD engines fitted to beetles didn't.

I know you can get adaptors to fit on the oil pump mountings, but have no personal experience of these.

aircooled technic you have done some work on my dads van in the past and possibly my mums beetle aswell, the old man speaks very highly of your work. We are on york road, Green bay camper and white beetle, im cluttering the drive with my bay panel van now aswell! :lol:

The problem ive had is that a exhaust stud was snapped off in the head and the previous attempts to remove it have destroyed the head, the j tube was held on with just 1 stud when i got it :x Anyhow i was looking out for another engine as the previous owner didnt think this one was much cop. I removed the engine this morning and have been stripping the head off this evening and the engine really dosent seem that bad, so depending on prices and availability i may replace the head as opposed to the engine if one becomes available. I dont suppose you have any reasonable twin port heads spare or even engines that you would be willing to sell?

I have one good (we I say good) head you can have. It came off a Brazilian engine & looks like it may have had thread inserts put in. Theses are not the normal screw in type, they look like a recondition job. Anyway, it is clean & decoked so would work ok I am sure.

It might get you up & running again with low cost. I would just clean everything & put it back together. Check the ring gaps for wear & replace if required.
