Exhaust fitting kit

I have an exhaust fitting kit but I am a bit confused.
Firstly is there a reason there are two of the big circular clamps, I can only see that I need one?
Also where the tailpipe fits to the exhaust box should the part arrowed face towards the box or away from it?

The clamp that just has the one 'washer' that goes against the metal/wire gasket only use one as they usually go against the heat exchangers which have the joint flange shaped in the same way - if that makes sense? The gasket goes between the edge of the heat exchanger and the one metal washer, it clamps together and then doesn't move.
This probably needs an image to make sense.
