Hi

I've just fitted a new stainless header to my bus and was hoping to use my old silencer for the time being. The new headers are from Just Kampers but being a cheapskate I did not buy the matching silencer. It looks very similar to my old one.

I think I have fitted the headers correctly and everything lines up and seals tightly.

I have fitted the old silencer to my new headers but the bracket that is welded to the back box is not in the right place when compared to when it was fitted to my old headers.

The picture should make this clearer.

My question - do I need this kind of bracket/strap or will the three bolts that secure the flangeon the silencer pipe to the flange on the header be sufficient. If so I will chop of the bracket but whilst the silencer appears secure will it bounce around when being driven?

Many thanks

Without the bracket you describe it's likely the silencers movement will cause metal fatigue over time.
