Heading off this morning the van seemed a bit sluggish and lacking power as we climbed the smallest of inclines. Took a look around the back and there's a hole in the carb so that you could see the fuel jetting into the carb when you revved the engine. Got some gaffa over it to seal the hole and seems to run AOK.

No pics I'm afraid but its a standard solex joby. The hole is perfectly circular and centrally placed directly at the front as you look at the carb, I don't recall there being anything attached to it so I assume that it must have just been a blanking plate or something. Can anybody tell me what I'm missing and whether they are available separately, I haven't found anything on the usual dealer websites to suggest that it's a spare part.

Obviously can't leave it with the gaffa fix indefinitely, thinking about maybe coming up with a more long term solution using blue tack ;)

have a rummage about the engine bay they can drop out....you need to get that inserted again a couple of ways of fixing it in place glue or solder, some people replace it with a coin of the correct diameter or similar......

Righto, always up for a recommended bodge.

I'll try to find an old Deutschmark to keep it German.

Just a thought, can the missing cover/cap only fall out of the carb externally or is there the chance it can fall into the carb therefore be on a one way journey to one of the the cylinders inside the manifold?

Wont go in because of the disk seating lip, if you stuck for a replacement Ive got a few scrap carbs can post one to you.
