This weekend im going to start the first major service i've done on the van. I've done various other thing over the year but not a full service. Got my haynes manual so going to follow that. Things im planning on doing are;

Oil change (Clean strainer + replace seals)
Valve clearances + Seals
Check lead
Clean and reset spark plugs
replace fuel filter
cheak points, gaps
Check over dissy, rotor arm + Clean
Need to also get a grease gun and grease the corerct area's

Then if time want to have the drums of to clean and adjust all the breaks.

Any other stuff i should be doing?

reset the timing with a strobe (as when you move the points if affects the timing)
when the rotor arm is off the dizzy wang a couple of drops of light oil (3in1 or something) onto the felt down the dizzy drive shaft.
change the oil in your air filter, unless youve got a foam pancake filter, then take it off, throw it in the bin and get a stock air filter.

They are the work of satan! There is photo evidence of one fitted to my van but only as a stop gap until I found a stocker and modded a bracket. Aussie pick up only air filters are hard to come by!

Afraid so, im in the process of getting a stock filter

You'll notice the difference! Have you got a timing gun? I've just got a cheap Gunson one from halfords which does the job, much better than static timing and a must if you have a 009 dizzy.

No I haven't got a timing gun. Dont think i've got a 009. It's all stock. You may tell me different.

Well its not a 009 as the big circular thingie is part of the vacuum advance (009s are mechanical advance)

Remember to disconnect the vac advance tube when setting your timing.

The body of the dizzy looks a bit shorter than normal if that makes sense? I'm sure someone on here might be able to identify it!

It's really worth investing in a timing light cause you can't really accurately time up using the static method. Plus when the vac tube is connected back up you can put some revs on and check your getting full advance.
