I'm confused, not difficult I know  , I'm fitting a 6 rib but the clutch in my box has a late bay clutch bearing set up with a pressure plate with a pad. Can I fit a early pressure plate (without a pad) on a late bay clutch bearing. Reasoning being I bought a early stage 1 kenndy about a year ago without the pad.

Don't think so dude, as far as I know you need matching clutches and thrust bearings otherwise you'll have some gear change/ slipping issues. I mixed up late and early bits in mine to start with and it wasn't great!

A pressure plate with a pad won't fit a late box, you'll find when you join them together you'll get a gap between engine and gearbox.Pad can be removed and pressure plate will be ok.The pad is there to support bearing on early boxes because there is no guide tube on the input shaft.Earlypressure plates had the pad, then when VW put the guide tube on the gearbox the pad was removed so it was just the 3 fingers, then they went to the multifingered pressure plate.Hope this helps
