hey up

my old bugpack tiwn quiet pack has finally sprung a leak, so i have invested in a shiny new mondo silencer replacement, cos they don't do twin quiet packs in shiny!

i have 2 questions, the gasket fitted between the header and the silencer at the moment seems to be asbestos (or something similar but no toxi i guess) i got a copper one with my new silencer, i assume this will do the same job? just wondering about the different characteristics of the two materials...

and also, the top of the silencer has a metal loop, which i understand is to be used with a support strap, but there wasn't one supplied, and it's not immediately obvious that there is anywhere handy on the van for it to be attached, how have you attached yours? (yes, i have got the type 2 version of the silencer)

sorry to be asking dumb questions about this most simple of jobs

Copper gaskets are better IMHO, run over the flanges with a flat file first for a decent seal.

Halfords do rubber exhaust hangers in a variety of shapes and sizes, mine hangs off the header.

scwheet, ta

though surely your header gets hot, no?

Yeah, the rubber hanger is only the link, it's not directly on the header.

Having said that I don't think there is any rubber on mine right now, just a large U-clamp.
