floppy gearstick

Ive replaced the front + rear bushes on the gear linkage and fitted an Empi quick shift plate , I noticed that the pin thats in the ball of the gearstick just slides back and forth . Is this right or should it be spring loaded ? Could this be my problem ?

I dont think so, have you checked the guide sleeve is in good order or fitted?

Thanks for quick reply,in the Haynes manual are they referred to as front+rear bushes , for the rear shiftrod .

no if your using a Haynes then the exploded drawing shows the guide as being item 10 at the very front of the shift rod elbow... they often wear...
