I say groove but more of a mark, just enough to feel it with your thumb nail. Il get a micrometer and take measurements of both flywheels to check. I was really hoping to find something obvious when removing the engine today but nothing stood out, it leaks far too much to drive anywhere. I'm so pissed with it!

Well I just called vw to order a new crankshaft seal and they are showing as discontinued and none in stock in the country!

So I've been pulling my hair out over this thinking I've been doing something wrong, and it turns out it wasn't me at all, the new flywheel I was fitting had issues, the holes in the centre for the dowels were too small, this meant that when tightening up the flywheel it was actually pushing 2 of the dowels into the crank as far as they would go and then stopping, when torqued up you could barely notice anything wrong but in actual fact the gap between the crank and flywheel was about 4mm, which was leaving a pathway for oil to come out, I was given another flywheel to try by gsf but that was the same, ended up fitting my old flywheel back on with new seals and she's now bone dry!!
Moral of the story is.. stay away from gsf for major parts! I got a full refund but it's cost me 2-3 days off messing around, and done my nut in!!!

Glad your sorted. I rather wait for the postage than use GSF these days.

I hear what your saying, the daily 55% off e mails always play a part in decision making, although as of now I'll only use them for small parts and servicing bits, can't be dealing with anymore *****!

Glad to see it's sorted - got mine to do soon, won't be using GSF for the parts. I've had nothing but crap from them recently. 55% discount doesn't mean a thing if you have to go buy it again 2 months later!
