As per the title anyone know the cheapest source of fram filters? I've looked and I can find them for about £20 delivered on ebay.

I've found them for about £40 in the states for 6 but the shipping negates the saving. anyone in the UK offer bulk packs?

cheers

J.

I would look into getting a servicable filter instead, after a year or two of throwing HP1's in the bin every 500 to 1500 miles starts getting expensive.

Think when you build your engine I'd use the cheaper golf diesel ones for the first few changes, you build the engine and should throw the filter after doing the intial start up and cam burn in, so really you'd be throwing away a £20 filter for no miles and 15 min cam break in.

Thanks Alex, that looks like a better option. I did buy 2 cheap golf filters, one for the break in, but the second one's seal popped and dump loads of oil on my drive. The Fram one hasn't, but like you said I dont fancy dropping £20 every oil change.

I also had the same problem with the golf oil filter , made a right mess on my drive. The HP1 has a deeper recess for the o ring so it doesn't move on cold start when the oil is thicker.

odd - never had a problem with the golf filter it is the one for the diesel from memory, and not popped one yet?? HP1's are ***** - sorry but the new ones are really badly made.

There was an article on it that'll I'll try and dig out, the best are the ones Alex mentions that you strip and clean..they are in the hundreds though for the best, so I figured a disposable golf filter at £3 a go, and I maybe at most do 2 in one year...

Do you have a pressure relief pump cover fitted?
I'm thinking the high cold oil pressure caused by fitting a 30mm pump doesn't help matters.

Ah yes I do....for the very reason...its a Berg one and is obviously very good.
On that I'm led to believe that the 30mm pumps over pump? and are a bit overkill for a street engine? Again I read lots on it when I built my 1745 its a 26mm pump and gets great pressure that stays very even....
