I picked this up yesterday

The rear cylinders are gone, you can still drive it but it's a bit of a mare tbh, pulling all over the place

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what brakes to go for and where to get them?

I've been looking at the CSP ones at machine 7 but they're bloody expensive, does anyone know of the same product anywhere else or even a different product?

Cost isn't really an issue but obviously i'd prefer to spend less on the same product elsewhere.

Hi!

Oh thats a nice one? More pics?

As for brakes, maybe just get the stock drums all sorted, and at least you can use it for the time being, and maybe see what offers are around once the season starts again, maybe the stering/dollar will pick up soon, so may be cheaper to wait a bit? I'm sure new shoes and cylinders wont be a lot of money, and i reckon you could re-sell the items maybe once you have discs etc sorted?

IIRC, there is someone on the forum running lots of Porsche kit, 944 rears on the back or something, and all of these bits looked like a cracking thought out conversion, and a lot cheaper than CSP - leaving you more cash for something else? Maybe engine wise or interior?
I like the idea of using some other parts and getting them to work, rather than buying a off the shelf - but not being very spanner handy (even though I am a service engine - just not on cars) a off the shelf would be nice, but more fun doing something yourself?

And in the meanwhile, you can tell us about the new bus!!

I'd just sort out your existing brakes. My 68 is running drums all round and they are perfectly up to the job if everything is in good nick and adjusted properly.

Exactly! Anyway, how fast do you wanna stop anyway with only 50 odd BHP? I have locked up the brakes on mine before now, but i did have my arse off the seat - servo assistance please!! Very large lorry/narrow bridge/camper not a good mix!

I converted mine to late running gear.

Not everyones cup of tea for sure as that's what makes an early bay early.

I intended to use mine for lots of miles with no hassle. Late brakes are much easier to maintain.

If you run Porsche brakes you will need Porsche wheels. By the time you added that expense in it would be cheaper to get wide 5 disk up front. CSP (£780, cool air), is about the only one unless you look to the USA. Exchange rates are crap at the mo, so everything will be expensive.

Drums can be made to work ok with a stock motor.

Another nice very early de-luxe, looks good!
Brakes, got to echo what the others have said, the standard brakes are fine if in good fettle. Go right through them, worse case, even if everything needed replacing, shouldn't cost much more than a couple of hundred quid and should do it in a day!
I am presuming there's not a turbo 2.4 or the like in the back, 'cos then you may need the discs.....

No 2.4 i'm afraid

I'm gonna replace all the standard parts i think, it's only got a standard 1600 tp so it's not very fast.

Shame about the lack of a big bore motor,(!!) but honestly mate, get the stock set up working as Hanover intended and all will be fine. Just remember you are driving a 40 year old vehicle, not a Saxo or the like, and it demands some respect and consideration.
Quality not quantity.
And more pics please, looks a nice bus, would like to see the interior myself. More pics all over for all please!

As everyone says, the stock drums are fine if they're set up right.
My only problem was replacing the front drums as mine were worn.
I didn't find any reasonable new replacements, the Brazilian ones from GSF seemed
poorly manufactured so i too looked at the CSP kit.
I eventually machined the originals using a specially made jig but they won't last forever
so if i don't find any NOS drums soon, i'll go with the CSP discs.

Oh and, Nice Bay, love the red bumpers!

you can fit late bay discs to your existing axle ..you`ll need the trailing arms and discs ..which i happen to have lots of!!!If you can put up with small five pcd..i think this is what pete b has done..£100+ vat for good used disc, hubs, trailing arms the lot

I did it too. I will run Porsche wheels too if I keep the van, that will hide the late brakes too...
