Go for the Hella H4 if you can.
slightly more but worth it !!!

Got mine from Heritage.

The JK ones have Halogen bulbs included,is it Ok to run these on the standard wiring or is it best to run a relay?

I would go for the Hella ones but at £69.95 each I think the JK ones at a quarter of the price is good value.(I know the JK ones don't include the chrome rims, but I have those already)

Also I think the JK ones might fit better as mine has the brackets for sealed beams installed not the usual side tab fitment.I'm not sure if all US buses came with sealed beams though?

The Hella H4 sealed beams as per US spec work out at £69.95 per pair not each.

US vans had the sealed beams unlike Euro vans mainly down to more strict regulations for their home market.

At least i think so, as this was the case for mine.

I see what it is now.You have to get the 1974 on headlamps to fit in the early US buses.I was looking at the price of the 68 - 73 headlights.

Kempy, the ones you got, item number 12 on the VW heritage page ,did they come with the bulbs and did they fit and look ok?

Also the hella headlamps ,item number 10 appear to be for uk buses so won't fit the us sealed beam brackets?

Either way if the Heritage cheapy sealed beams come with bulbs I'd go with them (compared to the JK ones),even if you need to buy bulbs the price will probably be a £ or two cheaper.

Anyway thanks for your input Kempy it's always helpful to get advise before spending all that money :D

i ordered the heritage ones........

they arrived with no bulbs, had to order bulbs..............

make sure u order bulbs with em

Mines a us van..does this mean the jk ones are no good for my 69 then?

I think the JK ones should be ok for a '69 US bus, they do advertise that they are conversion kits for a US bus too.If they turn out wrong, they should refund your money.Good luck and let us know how you get on when they get here.

Take off the headlight surround and you will see straight away if sealed beam units or not.

just went out to undo the screw but noticed that they have seeled beam written on them.so will i still need the JK ones?..As mine is US spec my side lightsare in the indicators..is this an mot failure in the country?

Just as a 'Top Tip'...

VW Mk1 Golf lights are a direct swap, they're flat glass rather than domed, but hey....

I've got them in the crewie, work great.

Go and visit your local scrap yard....

If they use the same bulb as the indicator and flash when you put the indicator on then yes it should fail the MOT.
The JK ones should do the job fine, they are a kit for early USA bay windows and come with sidelight bulbs too.You can always call them first to check.

8) my sides are the indi bulbs so ill give them a call...would i need a side light bulb holder aswell and dosome rewiring ot the idi's?

The Jk ones will have the sidelight bulb holders built in,call them first to be certain though. You will have to re wire the sidelights.I'm not entirely sure how to do this yet,I've got to do mine soon too,but I've got to get the engine rebuilt first.Good luck.
