My front part if van is in a sorry state .. Schofields do a front panel but not for a 72 so what would need changing / cutting / welding and do you know of anybody else which does them?

Correct me if I'm wrong but crossovers use the same front panel as earlies?

You can but later front panels from most suppliers but you need to modify the lower edge to replace the deformation panel, put in lower indicators and blank off the later indicators higher up.

what gvee says, you'll have an early front and late rear? you need to buy a late front and adapt, or get a body cut from a dry scrapper? jk heritage etc etc all sell the late fronts

Alternatively:

bottom repair: http://www.coolairvw.co.uk/Item/NA/211805035AR/T2_68-72_Upto_Headlight_Front_Repair_Panel.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

upper repair: http://www.coolairvw.co.uk/Item/NA/211805130/T2_68-79_3_Piece_Lower_Windscreen_Repair_Panel.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks

I think the crossover 72 had a different grill? Also the front panels they do new have some vw logo protrusion i believe? The one from a h schofield has anyhow so will need cutting out and blanked off somehow?? Need the panel from windscreen botom at least to below lights and depending on what condition is the bit below also although that was repaired separately and well some time ago and am hoping it is still good as metal quality quite good 15 yrs ir so ago?

As above its an early front so as they've said above, yes they have the small badge mount on the replacement panels which can either be cut out and panel welded in or disguised using the larger early badgewith the back of the badge routed out to sit over the buldge or as in some cases left in situe.....

Thanks :). So will be deciding to either do that (previous reply by Araon) with panel from Schofields (other source of new front panel) or getting an old one from another source eg Californian import eg FBI? Or pathcing up existing one???

the old cut tends to be the prefered option since you'll get everything in the right place as long as you get a rust free example (plenty coming in from the states and the usual dealers will tend to have good examples in stock)

In the past my rustfree doors were not rustfree ..... That's my concern with these Californian imports as they're not sanded down are they...? Ps thanks for all replies today! :D

The term "rustfree" does court controversy at times and no it wont be sanded back to metal, but you wont need to cut the buldge, fill the high level indicators, cut the lowlevel indicators and you'll have an idea of the fit.

alternatively you can keep high indicators and come over the dark side lol

An earlybay imported front clip is the way forward as it's likely that your A posts bottoms will be kippered too. Bear in mind that a few things will need swapping about to convert the LHD dry front clip to RHD.

:)

so i guess best way forward is to find out if lower part rotten or not? How to decide if front panel should be replaced or simply patched then? Poke areas or just visual check?

If the lower inner angels and structure are good, just re-panel the outside.

:)
